Northern Rockies Regional Municipality

Grand Opening of Community Trail

Speech by Mayor Bill Streeper

It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone here today for the Grand Opening of the Community Trail.

What began as a petition to Town Council - brought forth by Paddy Whidden and a group of concerned citizens - has ended with the Fort Nelson Community Trail system.

This community legacy - is the result of the dedication and hard work of many citizens & volunteers who were committed to improving the quality of life in our community.

The names of those involved in this project….. are too great to list in detail here, but without their perseverance and hours of hard work in getting this project off the ground, we would not be here today. Therefore, those community members will be individually and formally recognized by Mayor and Council.

In addition to the commitment and enthusiasm of many volunteers ….several other organizations and groups were involved in this project….including the work of the Spirit Committee, local contractors, foresters, engineers, and staff.

Financial assistance for this project was provided in part by the "Local Motion Provincial grant fund" as well as a very generous donation from EnCana, in the amount of $150,000.

Please join me in thanking everyone who was involved at getting this community trail opened today….

As a citizen of Fort Nelson and as your Mayor, I'm very proud and honored to congratulate and recognize each of you…. who had a role in developing this new community asset.
