Health Services

Fort Nelson, the regional hub for North Eastern BC, and the only service centre for many hundreds of kilometers in any direction, is an important Health Centre for the North.  The Fort Nelson hospital houses 25 acute-care beds, and 8 long-term care beds. Care extends to full lab and x-ray facilities, community counseling services, basic obstetrics and minor surgeries. Contact the Hospital at (250) 774-8100.

Additionally, Fort Nelson has:

  • two dental clinics,
  • two pharmacies,
  • the Northern Health Authority Health Unit,
  • drug and alcohol programs,
  • counseling services,
  • child\youth programs,
  • and several support groups and organizations.

The hospital hosts a regular visitation clinic schedule of specialists, such as pediatricians and OB-GYN, and complementary health care options such as massage therapy, acupuncture, and physiotherapy are also available.

To enhance health services, the NRRM is working closely with Northern Health and private Doctors and other health professionals to increase available service in Fort Nelson.  Currently, the NRRM provides housing free of charge for one year to new Medical Doctors.
