Northern Rockies Regional Municipality

Fire Department

Burn Ban has been lifted in the NRRM as of August 30th, 2010.

Fort Nelson Fire RescuePlease note there is NO 911 service in the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.
Fort Nelson Fire Rescue is a composite department comprised of five full time IAFF (International Association of Fire Fighters) members and up to 20 part time paid-on-call fire fighters. This highly competent team of professionals proudly serves more than 6000 people in a fire district of approximately 45 square miles. The department operates three pumpers, one quint, and one rescue unit out of one station and provides protection to a large industrial area and both rural and urban residential areas. We have an extensive Wildland urban interface with rural subdivisions nestled among the spruce and aspen forest prevalent in the north.

Put Yourself in Our Boots CampaignJohn Petropoulos was a Cst. with the Calgary Police Service and died at the age of 32 when he responded to a call at an unsafe workplace. While investigating a break and enter, John stepped onto a false ceiling and fell to his death because there was no safety railing in place to warn him of the danger. Since 2000, the John Petorpoulos Memorial Fund has been educating the public about the importance of keeping workplaces safe for everyone, including emergency responders (fire, police, and EMS personnel).  Please visit www.ourboots.ca to view a 10 minute video on how to make your workplace safe for emergency responders.

Fort Nelson is a vibrant community with several lumber mills including one of the largest Oriented Strand Board facilities in BC, Oil & Gas fields, and with the Alaska Highway as our main street, a large number of tourists travel through our area. This diversity makes our jobs demanding and requires us to maintain a high standard of skills in diverse areas ranging from First Responder medical care, residential and commercial fire fighting, and motor vehicle extrication. We also provide a proactive prevention program of inspections and education for students and adults in our community. We visit businesses and schools on a regular basis and offer training to the public in areas such as fire extinguisher operation and safety.
