Northern Rockies Regional Municipality

Bottle Donation Program

Following Regional Council support in 2010 for the continuation of the Bottle Donation Program past the pilot stage, the program has become a permanent fixture in Fort Nelson, yet it depends heavily on the involvement of not-for-profits who not only benefit from the program but provide the boots-on-the-ground to make it happen.

Non-Profit groups will sign up for periods of time ranging from 2 weeks to 2 months and will be responsible for emptying the bin and site cleanliness.  In return, the group will retain the revenue from all recyclables (sometimes up to $1000/month!) donated to the bin in that time.  Currently, Recycle for Hope, the Fort Nelson Secondary School Band, and the Fort Nelson FINNS Swim Club are participating.

We are Always Looking for New Partners!

Interested organizations can contact the Community Development and Planning department using the contact information on the right side of the screen, or Contact Us through the online form.

WideSky Disposal, the key partner in this initiative, has agreed to allow a bin to be located on their premises, 4911 49th Avenue.  A blue coloured bin has been modified to easily accept bottle donations, and to allow participants to remove the bottles through a locked hatch in the back.
For more information on Garbage Collection, Recycling, and Composting in the NRRM, visit the Public Works page or contact WideSky Disposal, the local company providing garbage collection and recycling services in the NRRM.
